What Causes Dark Circles Under Eyes?

- Genetics: hereditary pigmentation runs in families and is very common in Indian skin types
- Hyperpigmentation: excess melanin under the eyes, often worsened by sun exposure
- Lack of sleep and fatigue: makes the skin paler, so blood vessels show through more
- Ageing: under-eye skin becomes thinner and loses fat and collagen, creating hollows
- Dehydration: makes the under-eye area look dull and sunken
- Allergies and sinus issues: cause rubbing, swelling and congestion around the eyes
- Nutrient deficiencies: low iron, vitamin B12 or vitamin K can make circles darker
- Stress, smoking and screen time: strain the eyes and affect skin quality
- Hormonal changes and medical conditions: such as thyroid problems or anaemia

Frequently Asked Question
Frequently Asked Question
The best treatment depends on the cause. Laser treatment and chemical peels work best for pigmented dark circles, under-eye fillers for hollow or sunken eyes, and PRP for thin, tired-looking skin. At Essence Aesthetic, we assess your skin first and often combine treatments for the best results.
Dark circles can be reduced significantly, and results are long-lasting. However, factors like genetics, ageing, sleep and sun exposure can bring some darkness back over time. Good aftercare, sun protection and occasional maintenance sessions help keep results lasting longer.
Yes. Laser treatment is a safe and effective option for pigmented and vascular dark circles. It reduces excess pigment and stimulates collagen to strengthen the under-eye skin. Your eyes are fully protected during the procedure.
Yes, laser treatment for dark circles is safe when performed by a trained expert using approved equipment. Protective eye shields are used throughout. Side effects are usually mild and temporary, such as slight redness or swelling. As with any procedure, no treatment is completely risk-free, which is why choosing an experienced clinic matters.
Yes. A dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon can diagnose the cause of your dark circles and treat them with laser, peels, PRP or fillers. Over-the-counter creams alone usually give limited results, so expert treatment is the most reliable way to remove dark circles.
It depends on the treatment. Under-eye fillers give visible results immediately. Laser, peels and PRP show improvement after the first 2–3 sessions, with full results in about 2–4 months. Lifestyle changes alone may take several weeks to show a difference.
Foods rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, iron and antioxidants help. These include leafy greens, citrus fruits, amla, beetroot, tomatoes, nuts and plenty of water. A healthy diet supports your skin but works best alongside professional treatment.
Vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin B12 and iron are the most helpful. Vitamin C brightens skin and builds collagen, vitamin K supports blood vessels, and B12 and iron help when anaemia is a cause. Ask your doctor before starting supplements.
Yes. Dark circles treatment at Essence Aesthetic is suitable for both men and women of all skin types.

I do not advise this clinic for a hair transplant. My experience was disappointing on multiple levels, and the results were far from what was promised. The most concerning issue is that the doctor does not perform the actual transplant work. Instead, he brings in third‑party freelancers from Surat whenever needed. This is never disclosed upfront, and it raises serious questions about consistency, accountability, and safety. A lot of the clinic’s publicity seems to rely on polished YouTube videos rather than genuine expertise or patient outcomes. Inside the clinic, the situation is very different. The staff is minimal — essentially one permanent clinical assistant — and the overall professionalism is lacking. There is also no transparency about the number of grafts implanted. In my case, the doctor claimed to have done 5,000 grafts, but the density and coverage clearly did not match that number. The results speak for themselves, and unfortunately, they are not good. Please don’t risk your time, money, health, or appearance here. Choose a reputable clinic with a strong track record and proper in‑house medical staff. I highly recommend visiting at least 2–3 clinics before deciding. Compare their facilities, observe how many real patients are present, and if possible, speak to existing patients. It will give you a much clearer idea of which clinics are genuine and which ones rely on marketing rather than results.
